First, I met and got to see the great collection of Bucks County Impressionist Art at the Silverman Gallery in Buckingham. Stop in and say hi to Sharon if you go!

Second, I will be working with Martha Press, owner of the Farnsowth Gallery in Bordentown NJ (134 Farnsworth Ave.) on a solo exhibition of Loudseed artist Karen Titus Smith. Mark your calendars for Sunday, March 25 from 2 pm to 5 pm.

Finally, I was introduced to Jessie Krause, owner and artist at the Netherfield Gallery (11 E. Bridge St) in New Hope. Jessie is an incredible arist who also exhibits many wonderful other artists. Stop in and tell her I sent you!

2012 is off to VERY artsy start!! On January 14th, I visited the Museum of Modern Art to view the Diego Rivera Mural and Sanja Iveković Sweet Violence exhibitions.

Rivera’s exhibit was a retrospective of the murals he created for the Museum during his first exhibition there in 1931. Rivera’s major themes were the changing cityscapes of NYC during a bustling period of construction, the working class and the violence plaguing his native Mexico during the revolution led by Agrarian Leader Zapata.

Violence, particularly those against women, are a central theme to Sanja Ivekovic’s Sweet Violence exhibition. Ivekovic uses video, media installations, as well as her own collection of personal photos during a 30 year period to highlight the distortion of female beauty in pop culture, advertisements and history. Also central to Ivekovic’s exhibition is the disintegration of her native Yugoslavia and the advent of a new country.

After all this heavy subject matter, I was delighted to go upstairs to view some of MOMA’s permanent Impressionist collection, which includes two massive panels of Monet’s Water Lillies.

The following Friday night, I took a tour of native Philadelphian Zoe Strauss’s exhibit of photography entitled Ten Years at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. These images were collected over a 10-year project to document the working class and beauty of everyday life. As a part of her I-95 project, Strauss used the pillars of the beams that support I-95 to showcase her photographs of everyday people, buildings, cityscapes and landscapes. While she does not consider herself a photojournalist, I could not help but feel she was akin to a photographer in a war zone. Her photos are stunning in their rawness and reality. Most people would not consider her subject matter to be beautiful. She routinely captures glimpses into the personalities of crack addicts, the homeless, transvestites and prostitutes. What the viewer is left with is a new appreciation for the side of life mass media attempts to sweep under the rug. Strauss gives these people a voice as well as dignity.

As many of you know, I am an active member of the Young Friends at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The Young Friends are a vibrant group of young people, ages 21-45 who raise money for the Museum for programs and new acquistions through three main events: The Rodin Garden Party in September, the Holiday Party in December and the Winter Gala in February.

This year, the Gala is all about the Van Gogh Up Close Exhibit. which officially opens to the public on February 1st.

Tickets can be purchased now and include: open bar, food, live music and a chance to see the Van Gogh Up Close Exhibit in an intimate setting. This is a great chance to get all dressed up (black tie) and relieve some of those winter blues, all while supporting a great cause.

Philadelphia Magazine recently named the Young Friends Gala as the sixth most important social event of the year in Philadelphia!

Check out more information on the Young Friends Gala now and purchase your ticket today!

The holidays are here!

Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday and I’d like to share what I’m most thankful for: my family and friends. Particularly thankful for their health and happiness. Nothing is more important to me than the people I love.

I’m also thankful our first Loudseed Events for Emerging Artists event on 11/4 was such a huge success. The turnout was incredible and we sold two pieces from Kathi Everett Yarnall and a piece from Norman Sarachek. Thanks to everyone who came.

The new year will bring with it lots of excitement for Loudseed. I’m proud to be a contracted writer for Content Zombies, run by one of my oldest and dearest friends, Damian Bond. My job is to write website copy for our clients.

I’m also very excited to be a contractor for the Michener Museum’s Night at Uffizi Gala, which will take place on April 20, 2012. It will be the first black-tie gala for the Michener and the first time the Museum has ever hosted an international exhibit of this magnitude: 40 paintings and tapestries from the 14th-17th century which have NEVER left their home in Florence before this exhibit.

I’ve also been doing PR work for George Nakashima Studio, which will have an article in the Intelligencer in 2012 for the Foundation for Peace, who’s mission is to create peace tables for each of the seven continents.

Please follow me on Twitter @loudseed or find me on LinkedIn.

Peace, Love and Happiness for the 2011 Holiday Season!

Love,
